Forgotten admin PIN

For every plan.

On this page

If you've forgotten the admin PIN, you can set a new one with the recovery code. Nothing is lost.

Set a new PIN with the recovery code

  1. Tap the admin gear on the booth (or hold the top-right corner if the gear is hidden).
  2. On the PIN pad, tap Forgot PIN?.
  3. Enter the recovery code. It's 8 digits, made for this booth when it was first set up and shown in the setup guide and in Booth defaults > Locking.
  4. Choose a new 4-digit PIN, then enter it again.
  5. Admin opens with the new PIN.

To go back to normal PIN entry, tap the back arrow.

Forgot PIN? works even while the PIN pad is making you wait after too many wrong PINs.

After 5 wrong recovery codes, recovery is locked for 60 seconds ("Too many tries. Try again in n s."). This can't be changed.

Afterwards

  • Open Booth defaults > Locking and check the PIN is one you'll remember. You can choose a longer one there, 4 to 8 digits, with Change PIN.
  • Check you still have the recovery code noted down (Booth defaults > Locking, Show). Anyone who knows it can set a new PIN.
  • Write the PIN down somewhere safe, and keep the recovery code with the booth's paperwork, away from the device.

If the recovery code is lost too

The only way back in is to clear the app's data in Android settings (Settings > Apps > ZeroCapture Studio > Storage > Clear data). This resets the PIN to 1234 and makes a new recovery code, but it also erases:

  • all your settings
  • imported backdrops, frames and fonts
  • your branding and saved skins

Photos in the device's Pictures folder are kept. Paid plans come back from Google Play with Restore purchases.

Before you clear data, copy off anything you want to keep. See Getting photos off the device.

Keeping the PIN safe

  • Don't use the default PIN 1234 at an event. Anyone who knows it can get into admin.
  • Turn off Show the admin button in Booth defaults > Locking to hide the gear. You then open admin by holding the top-right corner of the booth for 3 seconds.
  • Set Lock admin after so admin locks itself when nobody is using it (5 minutes by default).
  • Wrong PIN tries and Then wait control how long the PIN pad waits after wrong PINs (5 tries, then 30 seconds, by default).
