Sending photos by SMS

For White label only.

On this page

On White label, guests can get a link to their photo by SMS. ZeroCapture's server sends it, never the device's own SIM, and you pay with SMS credits.

What you need

  • The White label plan.
  • A free ZeroCapture account signed in on the device. No Cloud subscription is needed, on the phone or on the booth.
  • SMS credits on that account.
  • QR sharing on, since guests usually ask on the QR code's page. See Sharing with a QR code.

SMS is set up in admin > Messages. If you don't see Messages, messaging isn't available on your device yet.

SMS credits

Credits belong to your ZeroCapture account, not the device. Every device signed in to the account shares one balance, and credits never expire. Buy them in the Store on its SMS credits tab, in packs of 50, 200, 500 or 1,000, through Google Play. Messages > SMS credits shows your balance with Check and Buy credits.

An SMS to the UK costs 1 credit. For now, SMS can only go to UK numbers. A number from another country is refused on the guest's phone and costs nothing.

Set Warn me below (20 credits by default). When the balance drops below it, admin and the Dashboard say Low credits with Top up. At zero the SMS option disappears from guests' phones until you top up; requests already waiting are sent after a top-up, within 24 hours.

Turn it on

  1. Open Messages > SMS and turn on Send SMS to guests.
  2. Check the message. It starts as "Your photo is ready! Tap to see it and save it: {link}". It must keep {link}, use plain characters only, and fit in one SMS; the editor shows the count and won't save a message that's too long.
  3. Set the Sender name (3 to 11 letters and digits). It's your business name by default, else ZeroCapture; guests can't reply to it.
  4. Check Default country for phone numbers.

The preview card shows the SMS as it will arrive.

How guests ask

On the QR code's page, guests tap Get this photo by SMS, type their number and tap Send. They see "We'll send your photo by SMS to … shortly." The SMS carries a link to the photo, kept online for 7 days.

Send by SMS on the booth

The result screen and the gallery can also show SMS, so a guest types their number on the booth's own number pad. The SMS links to the photo's online link if it has one, else to a copy kept online for 7 days, as Email on the booth does. It needs no Cloud subscription and no QR sharing, just credits and the device online. The SMS goes at once. Turn the button off with Booth defaults > Guests can change > Send by SMS on the booth.

The send log

The log lists the last 100 SMS with the number, event, status and credits used. A message accepted by the network and then not delivered still uses its credits; an invalid number doesn't. Send again sends a new one, and Stop link ends the photo's link early.

Numbers are used only to send that one photo, never for marketing. Boomerangs and videos can't be sent by SMS yet. See also Messages and Store.
