Guests take their photos with the Bluetooth remote, so they never need to touch the screen. Any Bluetooth remote, keyboard or headset that sends key presses works.
Pair it with the device
The remote is paired in Android's own settings, not in the app.
- Turn the remote on and put it in pairing mode. See the remote's own instructions: usually you hold the power button until a light flashes.
- On the device, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
- Tap the remote when it appears in the list. It may show up under a general name such as "AB Shutter3".
- Go back to ZeroCapture Studio.
The setup guide has the same step, with Open Bluetooth settings and a live check that says when your remote works.
Test it
- Open admin, then Remote.
- The top of the section says whether a remote is connected: Remote connected: … with its name, or No remote connected. Pair it in the device's Bluetooth settings, then press a button.
- Under Try your remote, press each button. You see the button's name, whether it was Pressed or Released, and what it does In the booth.
While Remote is open, presses only show there, so testing never takes a photo.
What the buttons do
By default every common shutter button takes a photo: Volume up, Volume down, Camera, Enter, Keypad enter, Select (the D-pad centre), Space, Play/pause and the headset button. The section says Using the defaults: every common shutter button takes a photo. For most remotes you don't need to change anything.
A button acts once per press. Holding it doesn't repeat, and it never changes the device's volume.
Give a button a different job
Assigning buttons needs the Personal plan or above. On Free every default button takes a photo, and the tester still works.
- Under Buttons, tap Add a button.
- When you see Press the button now…, press the button on the remote. Back or Escape cancels.
- Choose what it does: Take photo, Open gallery, Switch camera, Back to booth, Play a smile sound, Retake, Discard or Nothing.
Once you add a button, only the buttons in the list are used. Every other button works as normal on the device. To go back to the defaults, tap Reset to defaults.
If no button is set to take a photo, the section warns No button takes a photo. Guests will need the on-screen shutter.
Good to know
- Play a smile sound plays a funny sound without starting a photo, which helps get children laughing. See Sounds.
- Retake and Discard work on the result screen only, while Retake and Discard is on in Timing & wording.
- Remote presses do nothing while admin is open.
- If the remote stops working, see Fixing common problems.
For every setting in this section, see Remote.
