Taking photos

For every plan.

The countdown

A guest presses the remote, or taps the on-screen shutter. The booth counts down (3 seconds by default) with a large number in a draining ring, then holds still for a moment so everyone can smile, and takes the photo. With Screen flash on, the screen turns white just before the photo.

  • The countdown can beep or a voice can count "three, two, one". Choose in Sounds.
  • With Smile sounds set to Before each photo, a short funny sound plays just before the photo.
  • On Free there's no limit on photos. The first 10 each day are ad-free; after that a short ad follows every fifth photo (see Plans).

Multi-photo layouts

With a layout of two or more photos, the booth takes them one after another. Guests see Photo 2 of 4 (and so on) above the countdown, and the preview dims everything outside the next shot. There's a short pause between photos so guests can change pose. Set the timings in Timing & wording.

Developing and the result

After the last shot the booth shows Developing your photo… while it builds and saves the full-resolution photo. If the sticker step is on, guests add stickers first (see What guests can do).

Then the photo arrives as a print with Saved. Press the remote to take another, or Retake. Under it are the result's buttons:

  • Retake throws the photo away and starts again straight away.
  • Discard deletes the photo as if it had never been taken. It doesn't count towards Free's daily photos, and its QR link stops working.
  • Print opens Android's print dialog, which chooses the printer, paper and copies. It's off by default; turn on Print under Result in Timing & wording.
  • SMS lets a guest type their number on the booth (White label, see Sending photos by SMS).
  • Email lets a guest type their email address on the booth's keyboard (White label, see Emailing guests their photos).
  • Done goes back to the live booth at once.

Turn off Retake and Discard under Result to hide those two buttons, and the remote's Retake and Discard with them.

With QR sharing on, a QR code shows beside the photo so guests can download it (see Sharing with a QR code). The result stays for 5 seconds, or 12 with a QR code. A tap, a remote press or Back returns to the live booth. A take-photo press on the result only closes it, so nobody takes a second photo by accident.

The attract screen

When nobody has used the booth for a while, it can show the attract screen: your logo, Strike a pose and Press the remote to take your photo over a veiled preview. It's off by default. Set Attract screen after in Timing & wording. It needs White label.

  • A tap only wakes the booth.
  • By default a remote press wakes it and starts the countdown at once. Turn off The remote works straight away if the first press should only wake it.
  • With Wake when someone walks up on, the booth wakes when the camera sees a face.

Going back to the defaults

After 5 minutes with nobody using the booth, it puts guests' choices back to your defaults: backdrop, frame, layout, countdown and the rest. It never resets during a photo. Change the time with Go back to these after in Booth defaults.

If something goes wrong, the booth shows a short message that tells guests what to do. See Fixing common problems.
